Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island called West Island. The people who aren't familiar with this term tend to think it's a separate island somewhere in the west of Montreal however, it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to everything from Lachine west to the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is often referred to as her birthplace. But she only was there for a brief duration. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. Her early ambition was to dance but an increase in her height led to her growing beyond her dance partners. The Toronto Star article revealed she's six feet tall, with heels. As soon as I outgrew all my male partners, I stopped. A lot of dancers go from dancing to acting. For Brugel, it was her drama teacher who nudged her into this path. It was the teacher who recommended she go after a role in the school's annual production. After trying out, she ended up as the leading lady for Anne of Green Gables. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts in 2000. Brugel's career spans over 20 years and she has been in over 60 productions including big screen productions as well as smaller screens. The most well-known role she played was as Rita (pictured in the below photo) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel appeared only on rare occasions in the first season of the show The Handmaid's Tale. She was the only Canadian participant.
